What is a budget tyre?

'Budget' tyres are approved for driving in Europe and all over the world, here are some major brands: Landsail tyres, Hifly tyres, Wanli tyres...

As tyre technologies and sizes advance, tyres are becoming more and more expensive.

Budget tyres mean you can enjoy great quality without going over your budget.

This alternative means you can get on the road without breaking the bank.

On the other hand, it's unlikely that these tyres will last as long as major brand tyres (or performance levels may be lower).

What's a Quality tyre?

Are tyres really different from one brand to another?

A car tyre is a real compromise between specifications that aren't always compatible.

Also, major tyre manufacturers are always looking for the best compromises.

There are no models or brands of tyres with completely identical designs.

Some tyre brands aim for good mileage, others favour safety (braking distance), some prefer driving comfort, others want a quiet drive...

Tyres differ greatly from brand to brand... on our website, you'll find all these differences in the product descriptions, which will help you to choose the right brand of tyres and the right model that's adapted to your needs.

The snow chain market is very comprehensive and complex.

There are as many snow chain models as there are uses.

Whether you head to a ski resort a few days a year or are a delivery driver in the mountains, the obligation to use chains in certain areas, the frequency of use, product performance, reliability and ease of fitting are all factors that you evaluate when choosing your snow chains.

That's why Grip500 has decided to stock all of the snow chain ranges, so we have something for every user and every possible use.

Which is the best tyre brand?

The best tyre brand is the one that meets your expectations.

Every motorist has different expectations for their tyres, and these vary according to:

  • Driving style
  • Car
  • Road performance
  • Braking
  • Grip
  • Rolling resistance
  • Price
  • Aquaplaning
  • Traction

At Grip500, you'll find a wide range of tyres and product descriptions that will help you find the right tyres to suit your needs.

What are the differences between the models?

Tyre brands offer several tyre models that make up the manufacturer's range.

These are the models that a tyre manufacturer sells.

Tyre models differ depending on:

  • Season (summer, winter, all-season, Nordic, studded).
  • Driving style (sporty, heavy use, motorway, city).
  • Type of vehicle (passenger, sports, compact, city, family, estate, van, convertible).
  • Power (electric, diesel, petrol, LPG, hydrogen).

Each tyre manufacturer develops and retails comprehensive ranges that meet the diverse and varied expectations of motorists.

You'll find over 25,000 tyres on our site!

Our descriptions will help you choose the best tyres.

What is the first fit marking?

Car manufacturers spend a lot of time on the undercarriage system when developing cars.

Each car has different characteristics and specificities.

In the search for perfection, manufacturers have sometimes asked tyre producers to adjust particular specifications of certain products they sell.

These adjustments therefore don't result in unique tyres for each car manufacturer, but they do result in unique characteristics.

The tyres are then distinguished by a specific marking and allow the tyre manufacturer's product to be listed as original equipment.

Here are the first fit markings:

  • Alfa Romeo tyres: sidewall marking AL
  • Aston Martin tyres: sidewall markings AM8, AM9, AMS, AMP
  • Audi tyres: sidewall markings AO, RO1, RO2, B, EZ
  • Bentley tyres: sidewall markings B, B1, BC, BL
  • BMW tyres: sidewall markings*, M3
  • Citroën tyres: sidewall marking SI
  • Chrysler tyres: sidewall marking C1
  • Ferrari tyres: sidewall markings F, K1, K2, K3, KA
  • Fiat tyres: sidewall marking G1
  • Ford tyres: sidewall markings FI, FO
  • Honda tyres: sidewall marking DZ
  • Jaguar tyres: sidewall markings JRS, J
  • Lamborghini tyres: sidewall marking L
  • Lancia tyres: sidewall marking LZ
  • Lotus tyres: sidewall marking LS
  • Mazda tyres: sidewall markings DZ, EZ
  • McLaren tyres: sidewall markings MC, MC1
  • Maserati tyres: sidewall markings K1, K2, K3, KA
  • Mercedes tyres: sidewall markings MO, MO1, MOE, G1, EXT
  • Mitsubishi tyres: sidewall marking MZ
  • Opel tyres: sidewall marking OP
  • Porsche tyres: sidewall markings N0, N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6
  • Renault tyres: sidewall markings G1, RE
  • Seat tyres: sidewall marking SE
  • Subaru tyres: sidewall marking CZ
  • Suzuki tyres: sidewall marking SU
  • Toyota tyres: sidewall markings DZ, MZ
  • Volkswagen tyres: sidewall markings VO, V0, VW, G

For all these first-fit markings and specifications, we recommend that you choose the same marking for all four tyres to avoid undercarriage imbalances and vibrations.

Tyres without specific markings can also be fitted to vehicles. On the other hand, we recommend that for sports and high-performance vehicles, you keep tyre sets with these specific first-fit markings.

Why is a tyre reinforced?

Reinforced tyres (a.k.a: XL, Reinf, RF, EL) have been developed to carry heavier than normal loads.

These tyre sizes are generally used with estate cars, combi vans, minibuses, utility vehicles or SUVs.

We advise you to keep the load index recommend by the car's manufacturer.

It's possible to fit a tyre with a higher load index. Your vehicle may therefore be able to carry a heavier load, but your driving comfort may be affected.

On the other hand, the Highway Code prohibits using a tyre with a load index lower than the manufacturer's recommendation.

What does the ZR marking on the tyre mean?

Very high-performance tyres starting from the speed index W, may, in some cases, have the 'ZR' designation.

This ZR designation, when included in the tyre size, means that the tyre no longer needs a load index on the sidewalls (or, in any case, that it's no longer essential).

For example, the 245/35ZR19 tyre does not necessarily have its load index indicated on the sidewall.
